Henley Squash Club limber up for the Winter season<\/h2>\n\n

On Tuesday 1st September, the club held an Internal Teams session – partly to give team players a chance to keep match fit in preparation for the Winter season which kicks off next week; and partly an opportunity for non-team players to share in a squash-and-curry social event.<\/p>\n\n

The full details of how an internal teams session works can be seen here<\/a><\/b>. But in summary, two balanced teams of Henley players are selected using SquashLevels; they play matches of a fixed length (in this case 95 rallies) to ensure everyone gets an equal amount of court time; then everyone retires to Cafe Le Raj for an excellent after-match meal.<\/p>\n\n

When all the scores were totted up, team B, captained by Richard Little, had just prevailed over Team A, led by Jim Reay. The scoring system meant that every rally counted towards the final total, so no room for complacency – and a short break every 25 rallies allowed everyone to keep playing their best throughout.<\/p>\n\n

Although there were only four players in each team this time, the format allows up to eight-a-side (so sixteen people in total) – providing a template for future club play-and-eat socials, as well as a way to play team squash in the ‘down times’ of April and August each year. Fee was just \u00a320 – gives you the courts, the balls, the after-match meal and one bar drink – amazing value!<\/p>\n\n

Looking forward to the Winter season, Henley is fielding three teams in the Oxfordshire League and one in the Berkshire League – an increase on what was done this time last year, reflecting the club’s membership growth and a number of people joining the club who are keen to play team squash.<\/p>\n\n

If you are interested in playing team squash, message John Williams and\/or Peter Rivers. They run a WhatsApp group which allows people to register their availability to play each week. Harry Carr runs a similar group for the 1st team.<\/p>\n\n
