You need to have a SquashLevels account to do this (it is free). See below on how to set up an account if you don’t already have one.

To set up a SquashLevels account follow these steps:
1. From a web browser navigate to squashlevels.com
2. Click on the yellow button ‘Create an account’
3. First go to the ‘Look up your name’ field (not the email field).
4. Start typing in your name. The system should find you. There may be other people with your name (it is a very large database), so be sure to click on the right one.
5. Now fill in the Email and password fields to set up your account.

To enter a score follow these steps:
1. Log on to your SquashLevels account.
2. Navigate to ‘Henley Internal League’. On a PC you will find the button for this on the left hand side. On an SmartPhone you will find the link under ‘Menu’ at the bottom.
3. Scroll down a bit until you can see the boxes – one box for each division of the League.
4. There are little ‘+’ signs in circles in the grid where match scores have yet to be entered. Click on the appropriate one for your match.
5. Check the player names are correct and the match type is ‘Henley Internal League’.
6. Enter the scores for your match. You can enter the overall match score (eg. 3-2, 3-1 etc.) in the darker boxes. Or enter the individual games scores (eg. 15-11, 15-9 etc.) in the lighter boxes. Just entering the overall scores is sufficient for the League, but if you want your SquashLevel to be more accurately calculated, enter the individual game scores if you have them.
7. If you are claiming a Walkover, just enter ‘W’ in the darker box corresponding to you.
8. Click the ‘Add Result’ button and check the grid has been updated correctly.

Players are responsible for arranging their matches. You will be sent the player contact details for your division at the beginning of the month.

I recommend you try and arrange matches as early as possible to avoid the end-of-the-month rush. If people don’t get back to you, you are entitled to claim a walkover (enter a ‘W’). I encourage you to do this rather than leave the score blank. The rule for this is:

…if you have tried more than once to contact the other player
AND your first attempt to make contact was before the last week of the month
– then it is fair to claim a walkover.

You can view the full set of rules from the link on the ‘Leagues’ page of the club website.

All matches are best of 5 games. The default scoring system is PAR up to 15, but other systems are allowed if both players agree. See the rules for full details – also what to do if you run out of time or one player has to stop due to injury.

To book courts, you need to join the Leisure Centre, if you haven’t already done so. The various options can be seen here.

Essentially, there are two options:
1. Pay and Play – a small annual membership and then discounted rates for booking courts and other facilities.
2. Monthly membership – includes one free court per day plus access to the gym and other facilities. There is a discount for Henley Squash Club members – ask me for details.

The best way to book courts is with the ‘Better UK’ smartphone app.

Player Rankings. All of your match results feed into the ‘SquashLevels’ player rankings system. This is a great way to track your progress, independent of which division you are in. The system plots a graph of your ‘Level’ over time. You can also see your ranking relative to other players in the club – and also relative to every squash player in the world!

Teams (matches against other clubs). The club fields a number of teams in the Oxfordshire League (playing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 7.10pm. If you are interested in playing for the teams, contact me, and I’ll point you at the right team captain. Support for the teams is always welcome – why not arrange your League matches for 6.30pm on a Tuesday/Thursday and then stay on to watch and support the teams?

Friday night Drop-In (aka ‘Club Night) starts at 6.30 pm every Friday and is open to anybody – so feel free to invite along friends/family/colleagues. The Drop-In costs just £3 a session and can be paid for using the ‘Better UK’ app or at reception on the day.

ON-COURT SAFETY. Never play the ball if the other player is in the line of fire, or if you you are not sure where the other player is (eg. after turning off the back wall). Ask for a let and re-play the point. Seriously consider wearing goggles or eye protectors.

Coaching. If you are new to squash, or haven’t played for a while, it could be a good a idea to take one or two lessons to remind you of the basics as well as on-court safety.
