Internal Teams

Internal Teams fixtures are matches between all-Henley teams – typically arranged for weeks when the regular teams season in the Oxfordshire League is not active (eg. April or August). Here are some proposed details of how they would work. Feedback, comments, and suggestions are welcome. Email or WhatsApp Duncan Nightingale.

There would be two teams – call them Team A and Team B. A variable number of players can be accommodated from 4-a-side to 8-a-side. Would larger teams be possible? Comments welcome.

If there is an odd number of people wanting to play, I will join in to keep the teams the same size. Otherwise, I will just attend as organiser.

The teams will be chosen and arranged in string order of their SquashLevels as follows:

Team A: SquashLevel 1, SquashLevel 4, SquashLevel 5, SquashLevel 8, Squash Level 9 and so on.

Team B: SquashLevel 2, SquashLevel 3, SquashLevel 6, SquashLevel 7, SquashLevel 10 and so on.

Each individual match will consist of an identical number of rallies, so every player gets the same amount of play. For teams of five players each, this would be 75 rallies, with a 3 minute break every 25 rallies. So possible scores for individual matches could be : 40-35 or 39-36. The overall team scores are calculated by simply adding up the individual scores.

For team sizes of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 players each, the number of rallies per match would be 95, 75, 60, 50, 45 respectively – in each case with a 3 minute break after each 25 rallies. I welcome thoughts on the number of rallies per match. Obviously the constraint is the court slots available which will be both courts from 7.10pm to 9.50pm (8 slots in total).

There would be an after-match meal – probably Cafe Le Raj or Wetherspoons – I welcome advice on what is practicable for this.

There would be a cost per player of £20. This would cover courts, balls, meal, one bar drink. No discount for not attending the meal.

Comments welcome!
