First win for Henley in National Championships

Having entered the National Club Championship for the first time, Henley travelled to Luton this week to play the Luton & Dunstable Club. Henley were victorious, winning 4/1 and will now play the winners of Windsor and West Hampshire in round two.

At first string, Luke Power lost 3/0 to full time coach Steve Davies – 11/6, 11/4, 11/9. Whilst Power did not perform to his capability, Davies hit good length and controlled the rallies, making few mistakes. At two, Harry Carr beat the talented Kachinga Kabwe in a tight 3/1 – 11/6, 11/9, 11/13, 11/5. Simon Street had a fairly comfortable 3/0 (11/6, 11/5, 11/8) win at third string against Matthew Mulara as did Sam Carr at four against Scott Arnold (11/6, 11/4, 11/9). At five, Stef Stanton had a very one sided 3/0 win against Dean Pike – 11/1, 11/4, 11/3. This result demonstrated Henley’s strength in depth, however tougher tests will follow.
